hola everyone,
today is our final day in colombia as we are flying to Lima, Peru tomarrow. we had many an adventure in colombia: diving, snorkling, hiking to ancient cities, chasing insects, hanging with the locals, exotic fruits, paragliding, repelling down waterfalls, river rafting, cliff jumping, spalunking, canyoning, museums, we even climbed a mountain to Laguna de Iguaque where, legend has is, a woman emerged from its waters carrying a child and when the child was old enough they married and gave birth to the earth's population, we beat mario cart on the wii, and aparently i can dance salsa... who knew? seriously, anyone?
we will be spending a few days in Lima and perhaps try to surf the coast until we fly to Iquitos, which sits at 170m in the Amazon Basin. there we will be spending the weekends and seeing the sights and monday through friday we will be working with a volunteer organization called desarolloamazonico. this involves a 45min boat ride up the amazon river to a small pueblo called santa clara 2 zone where we will be living with a host family and helping with agricultural work and development as well as educating the locals in environmental preservation, sustainability, and english. we are supposed to be teaching them many things but something tells me that there is no way that they will get out of it what warren and i will. we are very excited to be adventuring into the amazon and the head of this organization is an entomologist himself so we'll have someone to chase bugs with.
i hope to be constructing a tejo course when i get back, its a game they play here that's a lot like horeshoes, but with firecrackers.
love johnnnnnn

Hey, I hear there are fish that live in the Amazon that will swim up your pee-hole. They then have to be surgically removed.
Watch out for those.
Seriously.
